COHPt – Certified Occupational Hygiene Practitioner
The Certified Occupational Hygiene Practitioner (COHPt) certification is the foundational professional qualification within the QUORTUBAH Occupational Hygiene Education and Development Pathway. It is designed to assess the essential knowledge, technical understanding, and practical judgment required to recognize, evaluate, and control occupational health hazards in the workplace. The certification covers seven core areas of occupational hygiene: 1. Toxicology and Health Effects: Principles of toxicology, routes of exposure, and health effects associated with chemical and biological agents, including asbestos. 2. Physical Agents: Occupational exposure to noise, vibration, thermal conditions, lighting, and radiation. 3. Ergonomics: Ergonomic hazards, manual handling, and the prevention of work-related musculoskeletal disorders. 4. Exposure and Risk Assessment: Risk assessment principles, sampling strategies, exposure monitoring standards, and basic statistical interpretation. 5. Occupational Health Standards: Occupational exposure limits (OELs), health standards, safety data sheets (SDS/eSDS), and applicable regulations. 6. Exposure Control: The hierarchy of controls, assessment of local exhaust ventilation (LEV), and personal protective equipment (PPE) programmes. 7. Professional Practice and Ethics: Technical reporting, record keeping, interdisciplinary collaboration, and professional codes of ethics. Candidates are assessed through a written examination designed to evaluate their understanding of occupational hygiene principles and their application to routine workplace situations. Successful candidates demonstrate the foundational competencies needed to conduct standardized occupational hygiene assessments and exposure monitoring, interpret findings within their level of competence, and recognize situations requiring escalation to more experienced specialists or professionals. Eligibility: The COHPt certification is the entry-level qualification within the QUORTUBAH Occupational Hygiene Certification Pathway. No prior QUORTUBAH certification is required to apply. Candidates are encouraged to have approximately two years of practical experience in routine, non-complex occupational hygiene activities. However, this experience is recommended rather than mandatory. Certification is awarded upon successful completion of the required written examination. The COHPt certification is the mandatory foundation for progression to the QUORTUBAH Certified Specialist and Certified Occupational Hygiene Professional qualifications.
